Natural History Museum

UI Design

This project explored a promotional and booking-page concept for a four-week interactive children’s exhibition at the Natural History Museum. Colourful Creatures was designed to introduce young audiences to the science of colour in the natural world through games, virtual reality and group activities.

  • I led the full concept and design of the promotional and booking page. This included defining the visual direction, page hierarchy and user journey, as well as designing the ticket-booking interface, pricing structure and supporting promotional content.
The final concept was presented as a high-fidelity mockup, with mobile and tablet considerations factored into the layout to reflect real-world usage.

  • The key challenge was balancing child-focused visual excitement with adult usability and clarity. I used bold colour blocking and engaging photography to capture children’s attention, while maintaining a clear structure and calm layout for parents booking tickets.

Strong visual hierarchy was essential: dates, pricing, time slots and ticket types are clear to reduce friction and support quick decision-making for a high-demand event. Photography was used as the primary storytelling device to bring the “colourful creatures” theme to life, with space left for future illustrative or interactive overlays.

Special consideration was given to the limited guest appearances by David Attenborough, ensuring this information felt prominent but not overwhelming, reinforcing urgency without detracting from the family-friendly tone.

  • The final design delivers a vibrant, engaging booking experience that appeals to children while remaining informative and trustworthy for adults. The concept demonstrates how an exhibition-led campaign can combine strong visual storytelling with functional UX, supporting high-volume ticket sales without sacrificing personality.
The result is a scalable, responsive page design that could be easily adapted for future exhibitions within the museum’s digital ecosystem.
